In group discussions, the participants from Makerere University and Zeppelin University exchanged their perspectives on the TRG's research topics "Entrepreneurship and Leadership", "Civil Society and Politics" and "Arts, Identity and Culture".

In the course of the field trip of the Transcultural Research Group on “Transculturality and Community. A case study on the Hope Development Initiative in Uganda “, a Symposium was held at Makerere University in Kampala.

The Symposium was organized by the Leadership Excellence Institute of Zeppelin University and the Hope Development Initiative in Partnership with the School of Women and Gender Studies of Makerere University. Around 60 Ugandan researchers and students followed the invitation and attended the Symposium.

After the welcome and introduction by Dr Catherine Anena from the School of Women and Gender Studies, the acting Dean Dr May Ssengendo gave an opening address to the participants.

In their presentations, Dr Agnes Atim Apea, founder and CEO of the Hope Development Initiative spoke about the Initiative’s work, and LEIZ researcher Dominik Fischer introduced the concept of transculturality and explained the Leadership Excellence Institute’s measures on global learning, with a focus on the format of the Transcultural Research Groups and the annual Transcultural Leadership Summit.

Subsequently, the student members of the Transcultural Research Group introduced their projects, focusing on the topics “Entrepreneurship and Leadership”, “Civil Society and Politics” and “Arts, Identity and Culture”.

In group discussions on the Ugandan context around those key topics, moderated by Dr Catherine Anena, a platform for exchange and further development of the projects was provided, and the participants from Zeppelin University and Makerere University shared their perspectives on the research questions.

Concluding the Symposium, Dr Peter K. Turyakira, Senior Lecturer & Head of Dept of Maketing and Management at Makerere University, shared his ideas with the audience.

A very successful event and an outstanding example on how transcultural academic exchange can be realized, this Symposium might be a starting point for the collaboration between Makerere University and Zeppelin University in future projects, the participants affirmed.
