"Good management education comprises social and philosophical matters just as much as character building: initiative, willingness to take responsibility, and clear values can and must be taught."
Prof hc Dipl-Ing Karl Schlecht | Chairman of the Karl Schlecht Foundation KSG
The Leadership Excellence Institute Zeppelin | LEIZ was initiated and has since 2012 been most generously supported by the Karl Schlecht Foundation (KSG). The Foundation was established in 1998 by the industrialist and philanthropist Karl Schlecht who had led his concrete-pump manufacturer Putzmeister to global success.
Karl Schlecht built his first fettling machine in 1958 as an undergraduate studying civil engineering. It is here that Putzmeister’s worldwide success story started. In recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements, Karl Schlecht was appointed Honorary Senator by the University of Hohenheim in 2002. He subsequently received Karlsruhe University’s Innovation Award, an Honorary Professorship from Tongji University, Shanghai, the Federal Cross of Merit in 2010, and the Diesel Medal in 2011.
The Karl Schlecht Foundation is based in Aichtal near Stuttgart, and up to January 2012, it held 99 percent of the shares in Putzmeister Holding GmbH. At the end of January 2012, all shares in Putzmeister Holding GmbH were sold to Sany Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. All proceeds from this transaction went to the Karl Schlecht Foundations.
The mission of the foundation is to improve the quality of leadership in business, society and politics through humanist values. It supports academic and educational projects which contribute towards the value-based personal development of young people and up-and-coming managers.
Prof hc Dipl-Ing Karl Schlecht | Chairman of the Karl Schlecht Foundation, says: ’Good leadership and the capacity to make the right decisions are the most important success factors in business, society and politics. From my experience as an entrepreneur, I know that leadership excellence is much more than just the competent application of business expertise."
