Julian Müller-Kaler, student at Zeppelin University and holder of the LEIZ Young Leaders Bursary, was invited by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Forum to attend a panel discussion with publicist, Michel Friedman on 24 January, 2017 in Berlin. The debate, being part of the FAZ conference series, "Islands of Advertency", addressed the topics of populism, nationalism and identity politics, asking "Do political reflexes replace common sense?" In front of a 300-strong audience, the four panelists discussed the causes and consequences of the current populist boom. Having stayed at the renowned Georgetown University at Washington in 2016 to conduct research on the rise of populism, Julian Müller-Kaler had witnessed the US-American election campaign first-hand.
