Eva Illouz was born in 1961 and grew up in Morocco and France. She studied in Paris and in Pennsylvania. She has been a professor of sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem since 2006 and at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris, an elite French university for social sciences, since 2015. She has received numerous awards for her work, such as the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Anneliese Maier Research Award and the EMET Award for Social Sciences. Her books are translated into numerous languages. She also writes regularly for newspapers such as "Die Zeit," "Le Monde" and "Haaretz."
In the fall semester of 2022, Eva Illouz has taken over the Senior Professorship for Theory of Emotions and Modernity at Zeppelin University. In the upcoming spring semester, she will offer an in-depth seminar entitled "The Politics of Love and Sexuality".
