Eine Sonderausgabe der Electoral Studies zum Thema "The Federal Election 2021 in Context: Germany at the Crossroads?" ist erschienen, die von Kathrin Ackermann, Martin Elff und Heiko Giebler herausgegeben wurde.
Abstract:
The federal election 2021 represents a watershed for German politics. For the first time there was no incumbent chancellor competing in the election and for the first time the mainstream centrist parties received less than 50 per cent of the votes. This resulted in an ideologically heterogeneous three-party coalition government. The COVID pandemic and natural disasters restricted campaigning, put new issues on the agenda and led to a high proportion of postal votes. This special issue addresses several important questions raised by this landmark election and puts them into the context of general debates in the discipline as well as of general trends in established democracies.
