The intended (and unintended) influence of international organisations and non-state actors on migration politics
This seminar will present an overview of the key international organisations and non-state actors working on migration governance. We will explore some of the intended influence they have on international politics, such as the recently negotiated Global Compacts for Migration and Refugees. We will additionally explore some of the unintended influence they can have on international migration politics, such as focusing resources on humanitarian work with refugees vis-a-vis longer-term solutions; and the multiplication of increasingly restrictive and selective immigration policies in countries across the world.
