The senate of Zeppelin University has granted the seldom honor of an honorary professorship to Dr. Markus M. Müller, political scientist from Stuttgart. This is a sign of appreciation of Müller’s long-term and committed work as external lecturer in the department Public Management & Governance of ZU.
"It is a great honor for me to accompany ZU in its rapid, exciting and innovative development as an honorary professor", comments Müller the commendation. He started his academic career in 1989, studying business administration at the University of Cooperative Education Karlsruhe and graduating with the degree of "Diplom-Betriebswirt" before turning to the humanities in 1992 when he followed this with studying political sciences and general rhetoric at the university of Tübingen and at Brown University in Providence (USA). As a research fellow at the "Sozialwissenschaftliches Forschungszentrum" and at the Institute for Political Sciences at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg, his doctorate followed in 2001 with the thesis "The new regulatory state in Germany" (in English). Müller also took on positions as guest lecturer at Duke University in Durham (USA) and at PH Erfurt.
In his research focus Müller deals with the systems of government of Germany, the USA, Great Britain, as well as with international politics, especially international comparative economic policy. In 2001 he changed from the theory of politics into the practice – into the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Baden-Württemberg. For a long time he has been the head of the central agency there, for a short time now he has been the department head of the sector "Mittelstand". Yet he has stayed connected with academia: with numerous publications, international talks, and also the position as external lecturer both at ZU and at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg.
"Markus Müller is a gain for Zeppelin University due to the special mixture of researching instruction with the students, the instructive research for political sciences and the practice as a minister", ZU-president Prof. Dr. Stephan A. Jansen explains the commendation. "Collective publishing of books with studies by students, his works also on political communication, as well as his focus on the mid-sized sector, related to the Friedrichshafen Institute for Family Entrepreneurship (FIF) are special perspectives of our future cooperation."
