The Teaching of Art Theory
The disciplinal reference fields in teaching and research are
• theory of art and aesthetics (especially theories of curating and deixis), • cultural sociology (especially theories of institutionalizing art and culture), • management theories based on the humanities and social sciences that aim for complex steering mechanisms, • artistic practice.
In the strongly project-oriented teaching, curating is applied as a method of analyzing cultural phenomena; at the same time there is a sensitization for differences and transitions between scholarly and artistic strategies of selection, contextualization, presentation and creation of realities. Research and curating are thus closely related to one another. Together with students, the chair plans and organizes regular exhibitions (cf. the exhibition series "politics of research" in Berlin), cooperates closely with the Artsprogram (Ulrike Sheperd), stages the university music program (Joachim Landkammer) and cooperates with artists in its teaching (at the moment with Christoph Schäfer, Thomas Locher, Ines Schaber).
