The American political scientist Prof. Dr. Guy Peters took over the newly established Chair for Comparative Governance at Zeppelin University in the spring semester 2009. Guy Peters, who is 64 years old, comes from the University of Pittsburgh to Lake Constance. He is one of the internationally most renowned representatives of that research area.
Guy Peters has been "Maurice Falk Professor for American Government" at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) since 1984. Before that he was head of the "Center for Public Policy Studies" at Tulane University and of the "Department for Political Science" at the University of Pittsburgh.
Peters has already taught at ZU several times. "In the spring of 2008 I gave a one-week seminar at the Spring School and was fascinated by the huge motivation and the commitment at this university. This is why I very much look forward to the further cooperation with the students of ZU", Professor Peters says. Guy Peters offers courses on the topics "American Politics and US Elections". His research and teaching activities especially focus on the areas of comparative political science. Thus, due to current events, Peters organized a course on "Election Campaigns in the USA" together with ZU students last semester. In this course students analyzed and compared the campaign strategies of the candidates Barack Obama and John McCain.
ZU-president Prof. Dr. Stephan A. Jansen voices his pleasure about the renowned addition by commenting: "In Guy Peters we have succeeded in winning a very special eminent scholar of political science for the strongly growing department "Public Management & Governance" of Zeppelin University. Students are enabled to gain insight into an internationally comparative theory of governance and the strategy of the internationalization of the Zeppelin University Graduate School will be pursued further. "
In the course of the 40 years of his academic work Guy Peters has published numerous monographs and articles and was also co-author of many publications in his subject area. At the moment he is co-editor of the journal "European Political Science Review". Visiting professorships have led him, among others, to the universities in Stockholm, St. Gallen and Vienna. For many years, Guy Peters has been in close contact with the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Eckhard Schröter, due to their cooperation in research projects.
